On Monday 30th May Simply Gym held their first ever Bank Holiday Festival!
Simply Gym opened their clubs to members and their friends from for a day of challenges and fundraising to celebrate fifty years of Cancer Research Wales.
The atmosphere in the gyms was fantastic all day long and to date Simply Gym have managed to raise a total of £736.44.
Cancer Research Wales are at the heart of the world’s leading cancer research and we love being able to contribute to such a great cause. All of the funds raised at the Simply Gym Bank Holiday Festival will go towards vital clinical and laboratory based cancer research in universities and hospitals across Wales.
Cancer Research Wales are running a special ‘50 for 50’ campaign to celebrate their fiftieth year, encouraging fundraisers all over the country to challenge themselves to do “fifty feats to celebrate fifty years”.
Staying on theme, Simply Gym set challenges at each club around the theme of “fifty feats” and asked for donations from those who entered. Challenges included HIIT Fifty, Simply Gym’s killer 50 minute class, 50 second burpee challenge, 50 second press up challenge and the 50/50 challenge which required 50 squats followed by 50 lunges.
Simply Gym Cwmbran had two very competitive members with the press-up challenge. Firstly, Jordan Price started the day by completing 76 press-ups in 50 seconds — a very tough record to beat.
However, later that day Jakub Zybura came in and attempted the challenge. During his first attempt he achieved exactly the same – 76 press-ups in 50 seconds — but wasn’t happy with that so he said he would try again after he had finished his work out. During his second attempt Jakub achieved 81 press-ups in 50 seconds to win the challenge!
The next morning Jordan Price came back in, unhappy that his record had been broken, so he took on the challenge once again… He achieved 83 press-ups in 50 seconds and his pride was restored!
Live DJs played at Simply Gym Llansamlet club in the evening and a very popular raffle took place at Simply Gym Cwmbran. A number of great prizes were bagged, including a signed Newport Gwent Dragons ball, Afternoon Tea for 2, a Makeup Consultation at the Body Shop, a Shellac Manicure and a CK Supplements Goodie Bag.
Simply Gym Llansamlet Founding member, Stacey Walters, states:
“I took part in a tough 50 minute synergy class which was very popular. There was a live DJ playing during the class which created a great atmosphere. The gym was busy throughout the day and it was great to see so many new faces getting involved in all of the challenges and raising money for such a great cause; a cause that is close to many people’s hearts. A very well organised event by simply gym and hope there will be more to come.”
