How to Make Long-Term Fitness Goals

With summer now here, many of us will start to ramp up our workouts in a plea to turn things around before our trip to the sun.

But, the reality is, we will not transform ourselves into a Greek God or Love Island contestant after 2 or three sessions, with ‘quick fixes’ simply not working.

This is why at Simply Gym, we encourage our members to make long-term fitness goals, ensuring they are working towards something with a strategic, killer plan!

Below, we share a few tips and ideas on how to put that ultimate goal in place and more impartially, achieve it!

What is the visual end goal? Ask yourself!

If you are anything like us, you will be fan girls and boys of a whole bunch of celebs and fitness stars; people that inspire us to get off our bottoms and hit the gym (even when all we want to do is load up that Dominos app). While it is not great to fixate on someone else’s body, admiring certain traits such as abs and legs can give you a picture of what you want your body to look like. This will help you build your ultimate visual goal for your body.

The health goal

Though having a ripped torso and impressive booty is great, you want your goal to be just as much about health as you do about looks. This will result in a happy and healthy mind and body, aka the winning combination.

Below are a few common health goals many of our members focus on:

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Lose weight
  • Lower cholesterol
  • Relieve pain
  • Improve skin
  • Sleep better

Build smaller goals that lead the way

Nothing worth having comes easy, that’s what all the Instagram quotes say anyway. However, a complete body transformation needs to be achieved in stages, allowing you to celebrate little wins and remain motivated to plod on to the next.

Things like ‘lose two pounds’, ‘do 10 unaided press-ups’ and ‘attend X amount of classes in a month’ are great for keeping morale up whilst building confidence AND muscle.
