Summer bodies are made in Spring

With Summer fast approaching we are seeing many of our members turn up the heat, wanting to revise their diet and exercise plans in order to reach their summer bod goals. Though we don’t advise any quick-fix methods, there are some tweaks you could make that will encourage speedy results, setting you on the right path to feeling fabulous this Summer. Here are just a few tips and tricks from the Simply Gym team:

Use your time well

For many, the idea of peeling your eyes open and going straight to the gym is a far cry from paradise, with the majority of us putting exercise off until after work. While giving yourself time to mentally prepare to get your sweat on is good, training in the morning can give way to impressive results. This is because when you train on an empty stomach you burn stored fat as opposed to carbohydrates. You will also continue to burn fat at an accelerated rate after you workout! #winning

Interval training

Wanting to strip some fat to give those abs the exposure they deserve? If so, then we highly recommend interval training; again a great way to make the most of your precious time. According to many, more fat is burnt by shorter, more intense exercises rather than a boring hour of cardio. Challenging the body at the same time, exercises such as Jump Squats and Sprints are also pretty fun.

Don’t underestimate the power of rest

We all love the ‘Go Hard or Go Home’ motto but it is important that you give your body time to rest. The truth is, if you avoid resting you cannot restore energy or repair damaged tissues, seeing you underperform during your next kick-ass session.

Eat little, but often

There’s no doubt about it, we love our food. But while we do recommend the odd treat (or two), we are huge advocates of clean eating. Before starting any summer body transformation, you need to get in the kitchen, ridding yourself of all of the junk food and processed products you own. Then, you should be left with the good stuff; lean meats, vegetables, fruits and protein-bursting goodies. However, it is what you do with these products that matter. Too often do we see men and women starve themselves all day before indulging in one big meal in the night. Our advice would be to eat moderate portions, often, allowing you to fuel your body, speed up your metabolism and remain as energetic as a puppy drinking espresso on roller-skates.
